Dewri Mandir is situated in Dewri Village of Tamar Block in the state of Jharkhand, Ranchi. The name of Dewri Temple is derived from the name of Dewri Village, It is located near the Ranchi Tata Highway NH-22 (before known as NH-33) and It is 60km away from Ranchi.

It is a very ancient temple of Maa Durga, The most special thing about this Temple is that Maa Durga has 16 hands While normally Maa Durga has 8 or 10 hands That’s why this Temple is also known as Solah Bhuji Maa Durga Temple.

The Architecture of The Dewri Temple

The Dewri Mandir is made up of old stones and the stones have been built only by placing them on top of each other and no cementing material has been used in it.

There is very little space near the idol of Maa Durga in which only two or three people can stand and worship.

those stones were going to be removed, but according to the people there, removing the stone in that temple is considered inauspicious.

Therefore, the original form of the Dewri Temple is the same as it was centuries ago, only a new temple has been built around the old temple and the architecture of the new temple is very spectacular.

History of this temple

According to People, Dewri Mandir is 700 yrs old and this Mandir was established in the year 1300 by king Kera a Munda king of Singhbhum.

It is said that king Kera while returning from war after defeating his enemy that day Maa Durga came in a dream and asked king Kera to establish the temple and then after the establishment of this temple by the blessings of Maa Durga he defeated his enemy and he got his kingdom back, Since then people have a lot of faith for this temple.

It is said that if the devote wishes for something with a pure heart then lord Durga definitely fulfills the wish of his devotee.

Thousands of devotees come here every day and worship here. At the temple devotees tie yellow sacred thread for the fulfillment of their wishes, Devotees also sacrifice goats for the fulfillment of their wishes and many devotees also hang bells in the temple.

This temple has become very popular in India and the reason for this is the former captain of the Indian cricket team, Dhoni who has been visiting the Dewri Mandir for a long time. Still, whenever he comes to his home in Ranchi, he definitely goes for the darshan of Maa Devri.

Apart from Dhoni, many other prominent personalities have come here like Shikhar Dhawan and his wife, Harbhajan Singh and Indian cinema actor Rajpal Yadav have also come to visit Maa Dewri.

It is said that whenever a big series is about to start, Dhoni definitely comes to seek the blessings of Maa Dewri.

In the year 2011, before the start of the World Cup, Dhoni had come for the blessings of his mother, and even after winning the World Cup,

He had come to Dewri Mandir with her wife Sakshi to express gratitude to Maa Dewi

In the Dewi Mandir, 5 days a week Pahan does the puja (Tribal Priest), and the other 2 days Tuesday and Saturday Brahman does the puja.

All the essentials for the puja are found here and there is also a facility to keep luggage slippers etc here you also get the facility to park your car and bike so there is no worry about parking.

And marriages also take place in the temple, so a marriage hall is also available near the temple.

Traveling To Dewri Mandir

The road is full of heavy vehicles, so, one needs to be extra cautious and good driving skill is required for your own safety and also direct bus is available from Ranchi to Dewri Mandir so you can go by bus and the bus fare is only 80 rupees,

and Dewri Mandir is near NH 22 so you do not have to walk much after getting off the bus. And there are also buses available every hour to come back from Deori, so you will not have any problem coming back.

There are also many hotels for breakfast and food, There are no public toilets available near or around the temple So you should be ready for an emergency.

There are photographers available who click good photos and charge very less money.

There is less crowd in the morning and afternoon after 3 PM, so if you do not want to stand in long queues, then you can come here early and you can do your Pooja peacefully.

The perfect Weather for visiting Dewri

You can visit in any weather but we will recommend not to visit in summer. November to April and July to November to is the best month that you can plan to visit the temple, avoid in summers because you will face very hot weather at that time.
